A Kindergarten Miracle

What a special day we had today!
We have successfully hatched six ducklings in our classroom today!
Rachel Garcia ( a childcare provider of some of our Mariposa students and Kelly Moulder's mom)
saw a mallard duck laying eggs in her yard.  She came and talked to me about them because she was worried about the neighborhood cats.  Well, sadly the mother duck was run over by a car.   She had nine eggs in her nest and Rachel brought them to me.  I have been hatching chicks for 33 years.  So much fun, but I always wanted to hatch ducks.  I  had ducks as a child and have many wonderful story books about ducks.  I really didn't think they would hatch because they had been without the mother duck for at least 12 hours.  We thought they might hatch on Monday, May 26th.  No luck last week, and I thought I might as well leave the incubator on for the weekend since we weren't sure of the day they were layed.  I was so excited to see the two ducklings above in the incubator this morning.  We had four more hatch during the day.

They are already playing in the water and very active.

Mallard ducklings!

Eating and drinking.

I made a duck quilt for my grandaughter Harper and started her collection of duck stories when she was born.
What a wonderful day for the crazy K teacher and her children.
