Amphibians and Reptiles

One of my favorite units to teach is amphibians and reptiles.  I have about a zillion frog books!  I start the unit with stories and songs from a science program called Come with Me Science.  We listen to details about the animal and then sing a song about the animal.  After that lesson, we watch a 15 minute program on each animal called Up Close and Natural.  This gives us live animals to see and watch in their habitat.  We have done several art projects and writing.  Here are a few pictures:
TLC frogs with Kaye Espinosa! So cute!

We all love the stories and lessons that Kaye does in our class each week.

Our venn diagram about frogs and toads! Our fun paper plate amphibians.

Snake day!  We made these snakes and wrote stories from our tree map.  Kailey, Joe's aide, called her friend Andrew and he brought a snake to our classroom.  The kids were surprised and very quiet!!!

These are the pictures we put up as we listen to the Come with Me Science snake lesson.

Our froggies with stories on their tummies.

Slithery Snake song from Come with me Science.
We have learned about lizards and turtles.  We'll talk about crocodiles and alligators later this week.

TLC Farm Books and Chicks

Our TLC Farm Books turned out beautifully!  Thank you Mrs.Espinosa!

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly!  We made a project for retelling the story.  Each child decorated his/her Old Lady and colored the animals in the story.  As we retold the story, each animal was dropped into her tummy. (Clear baggie)  Try this at home.

Most exciting day of the year!  Our chicks hatched!  We were so lucky to see two hatch in class.

Here are the cute little chicks on day one!  We have a total of six.

Our Musical Performance: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Herb the gardener and Rosemary his wife.

The lovely flowers doing their dance.  Look at those beautiful costumes!  Thanks to Clara's grandma.

Flowers and bunnies singing the opening song.

The cool weeds doing their dance and taking over the garden.

Mr.Scarecrow what can we do about those weeds?

Mr.Scarecrow, Rosemary and Groundhog try to solve the problem.

The tomato and the peapod think we might end up a stew.

Veggies, Herb and the dragonfly.

Our final song, "How Does Your Garden Grow?"  We performed with sign language and singing.

Our beautiful set and all the wonderful things that live in our garden.

I am so proud of the children.  They did such a wonderful job.
I hope they will remember their kindergarten play on the stage.
Thank you to all the parents for their help and support.
